Why you don't get comments on your blog

The content wasn't original
If it was something that's currently doing the rounds on social media and a hundred other blogs then chances are your post was just unlucky enough to be in my reader after someone who's posted the same
content.
The content doesn't warrant a comment
Posts that consist of an image with a quick "I love this" below do not make me want to leave a comment. What can I possibly have to say about the image other than "Me too"?
Pad it out a bit to make it post worthy, or just share it through Twitter or something instead.
You want me to sign up as a member first
No, no, no! There's no way I'm signing up for a profile on your blog to post a comment. Perhaps if your offering unique content or freebies that I can't get otherwise, I might consider if, but if I just want to leave a comment, I won't bother.
You're forcing me to post from a social network profile
Please don't make me post a comment using my Facebook or Twitter or LinkedIn, or whatever profile.
This is about building my brand and name recognition. Sending them to my Facebook profile which I keep private is a total waste of time.
You didn't reply to comments I left previously
If I've taken the time to leave you a comment, at the very least you should acknowledge this with a quick reply!
Ignoring my previous comments is a great way to stop me bothering to comment again.
You didn't return the favour
When I leave you a comment, chances are it's because I'm hoping you will comment on one of mine in return. If you didn't, I probably won't bother again.
Your content didn't anger me
Nice post, but it was a bit wimpy. You kind of stayed on the fence with that opinion, didn't you? If you have a strong opinion about something, be willing to voice it (and defend it!).
The posts that make me want to comment the most are the ones that discuss a topic that absolutely makes my blood boil!
Your blog theme is damn ugly!
No matter how great your content is, if the theme or your formatting is ugly or hard to read, I'll probably just not bother to read what you've put. And since I haven't read it, I definitely won't be leaving you a comment.
Your comment list is full of spam comments
A number of times I see articles full of spam designed to look like generic comments such as "Great post" or "Very Useful" with the author name linking to an online pharmaceutical website or other ‘dodgy' content. Sometimes the author name even gives away the fact that it's a spam comment by having some descriptive anchor text.
There's nothing in it for me
Selfishly I'm leaving a comment because I'm hoping to get something out of it,  i.e. a link back to my blog.
Even if it's tagged as ‘nofollow' I still want people to be able to click my name and visit my site if they wish.
